You can resell your property at any time. However, you will usually have to repay all of your discount if you sell within five years.
You won't have to repay your discount if you bought the property more than five years ago. You may not have to pay back the discount even if you have owned the property for less than five years if:
- you are selling the property to a family member
- you are selling a part of the property you don't live in (for example, a garage)
- a court has ordered you to give the property to your husband, wife or partner after divorce or separation
- the property has passed to a family member after the death of the owner.
Contact an advice agency if you are unsure whether or not you will have to repay some of your discount.
