The Housing Executive gives you points if you are experiencing social problems because of your housing circumstances. The Housing Executive awards points for social needs in two categories: Primary social needs and Other social needs. You can get a maximum of 80 points for your social needs.

Primary social needs

The Housing Executive gives you 20 points for each Primary social need. You can only be given points for two Primary social needs. For example, you may get points for a Primary social need if:

  • you have been attacked in your home
  • you have been harassed and fear that you may be attacked,
  • you will be attacked if you stay in your home,
  • you have witnessed a traumatic event in your home,
  • members of your household have to live in seperate accommodation due to overcrowding,
  • you will be placed in care if you don't get new accommodation.

The icon 'Primary Social Needs' checklist explains how the Housing Executive decides who gets points.

Other social needs

The Housing Executive gives you ten points for each Other social need. You can only be given points for four Other social needs. It is easier to be given points for Other social need than for Primary social need.

If you have already received Primary social need points for a particular situation you can't get Other social need points for that situation. For example, if you have been given Primary social need points for harassment you can't get any Other social need points for harassment.

You may be given points for an Other social need if:

  • you are having a neighbour dispute,
  • you are being harassed but there is no risk of violence,
  • your accommodation is too expensive or unsuitable,
  • you are socially isolated or need to be near family,
  • you have to move to take up a new job or education,
  • social services have recommended that you get new accommodation.
