The Housing Executive doesn't only help by providing accommodation. If the Housing Executive decides that you are homeless it may store your personal belongings.
When will the Housing Executive store my belongings?
The Housing Executive may arrange to store your personal belongings if:
- you are considered homeless
- in priority need
- the Housing Executive is investigating your application
- there is a danger of loss or damage to your property.
The Housing Executive will also arrange to store your personal belongings (including furniture) if you are a Full Duty Applicant in temporary accommodation waiting for suitable permanent accommodation .

Will I have to pay to store my belongings?
You may not have to pay to store your belongings if you are in financial hardship. You can be seen as being in financial hardship if you are in receipt of any means tested benefit.

What if my belongings get damaged?
The Housing Executive won't accept responsibility for any damage when your belongings are being stored. The terms and conditions you will be asked to sign states that the agreement is between you and the storage company. Keep an inventory of your belongings in case you want to make a claim against the storage company.

What other help is available?
The Housing Executive may pay a taxi to take you from the District Office or Homeless Advice Centre to your temporary accommodation if you are homeless and in priority need.
If you are a single person who is homeless you can contact the Simon Community 24 hours a day on 0800 171 2222. The Simon Community will assess your circumstances and may be able to provide you with accommodation.
