If you've nowhere to stay tonight, there are several things that you can do. This section explains your options.

Get advice

There are many agencies that can help you in an emergency, including Housing Rights Service. An adviser can:

Go to the Housing Executive

The Housing Executive has a legal duty to give housing advice and information on preventing homelessness to anyone who asks in Northern Ireland. The Housing Executive may give you temporary accommodation while it investigates your homelessness application. However, the rules about this are complicated. If your local Housing Executive District Office is closed, telephone the icon emergency number for your area.

Contact the Simon Community

If you are a single person who is homeless you can contact the Simon Community 24 hours a day on 0800 171 2222.  The Simon Community will assess your circumstances and may be able to provide you with accommodation.

Emergency accommodation

There are several kinds of accommodation that can be accessed in an emergency, including:

Sleeping rough

Sleeping rough can be dangerous and may damage your health. You should only consider it if you have no other option available.

Squatting

Squatting is not an option in Northern Ireland. If you are caught trying to get into someone else's property or living there without permission, you could end up going to court.
