Pension credit Print E-mail

Pension credit is intended to make sure that no-one over the age of 60 has to live below a minimum income level.

Who can apply?

If you or your partner are aged over 60, you may be entitled to claim pension credit. If you are part of a couple and only one of you is over 60, then the person who is over 60 has to make the claim.

What can you get it for?

Pension credit can be paid for two reasons. You can get:

  • guarantee credit because you have a low income, or
  • savings credit as a reward for having saved a small amount for your retirement.

More information

To find out more, visit the Pension Service website. You can also use the online calculator to find out if you are entitled to any pension credit.

Winter fuel payments

If you, or your partner, are over 60 you will be entitled to a winter fuel payment. This is an annual payment of:

  • £200 if you are under 80,
  • £300 if you are over 80.

You will only have to make a claim for your first payment. You should then receive payments automatically every year. The Pension Service website has more information on winter fuel payments.
