Housing repairs in Northern Ireland

This section provides information about the rights you have if your home needs repairs. It also explains what you can do if you are worried about safety, or your home has become unsuitable for you.

If you are unsure about your rights contact an advice agency in your area. You may be able to get help from your local council if the condition of your home is damaging your health.

Bad housing

You may be able to get help if your home is in a very bad state. In some cases your local council can force your landlord to carry out repairs. More >

Your Tenant's Handbook outlines who is responsible for carrying out certain types of repair. In some cases you may be able to carry out the repair yourself and get the Housing Executive to pay for it. More >

The Housing Executive can redevelop areas to improve the living conditions of people living in unfit houses. The area can contain homeowners, private tenants, housing association tenants and Housing Executive tenants. More >
