Housing advice for Northern Ireland

Video guide to Bedroom Tax

This video explains how the bedroom tax works in Northern Ireland

The bedroom tax reduces how much help you get towards your rent if your home has too many rooms and you rent from the Housing Executive or a housing association.

The proper name for this policy is the 'social sector size criteria', but most people call it the bedroom tax.

The bedroom tax is a policy that cuts the amount of help you get to pay rent if you have too many bedrooms.

You should get an extra payment if you're affected by the bedroom tax in Northern Ireland. This is called a welfare supplementary payment.
